WASHINGTON, DC – The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) today released a letter sent to all Members of Congress urging them to approve a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers and end the uncertainty over their status urgently. WASHINGTON, DC / CHICAGO, IL – The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) announced today that the 15th National Summit of Hispanic State Legislators will be held from February 22-25, 2018 in Chicago, IL. Latino state legislators from across the country will convene to focus on key priorities for Latino families. The summit will gather senior elected officials, state legislators, diplomats, corporate executives, community advocates, and policymakers to address some of the issues impacting Latino voters. Attendees will participate in panels to discuss a wide variety of issues, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) renegotiations, the Census, infrastructure, political underrepresentation of Latinas, and other pressing issues.

La decisión ha sido anunciada luego de que también se le revocara el TPS a los haitianos y nicaragüenses el año pasado. WASHINGTON, DC – The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) issued the following statement on the US Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) decision to rescind the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) of over 200,000 individuals from El Salvador, many who have been working legally in the US since 2001. This decision comes on the heels of a similar decision to allow TPS to expire for tens of thousands of Haitians and Nicaraguans. Reports indicate that Honduran beneficiaries of this program will also be targeted next.

La nueva política de Sessions da al traste con la evidencia científica, la voluntad democrática de los votantes en 29 estados y el Distrito de Columbia y afectará a los latinos y otras minorías desproporcionadamente.
WASHINGTON, DC – The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) firmly rejected a recent memorandum by Attorney General Jeff Sessions revoking Obama Administration policy that directed US Attorneys not to focus scarce law enforcement resources in prosecuting low-level cannabis offenders in states where it has become legal for either medical or recreational use. The new policy is contrary to scientific evidence, the democratic wishes of voters in 29 states plus the District of Columbia, and will disproportionately affect Latinos and other minorities.
