WASHINGTON, DC – Hoy, miembros del Caucus Nacional de Legisladores Estatales Hispanos (NHCSL por sus siglas en inglés) lamentaron la muerte del Senador de Arizona, héroe de guerra, candidato presidencial, prisionero de guerra y hombre de estado, John McCain. Los legisladores de NHCSL también hicieron un llamado a todos los oficiales electos de la nación a seguir su ejemplo de valentía, sacrificio, honor y poner al país primero.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, members of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL), mourned the passing of Arizona Senator, war hero, presidential candidate, POW and statesman, John McCain, and called on elected leaders at all levels of our Nation to follow his example of courage, sacrifice, honor, and country first.

The Quad Caucus highly values the inclusion and representation of all communities of color in the 2020 Census. Census has a significant impact on federal funding and democratic representation of all communities, particularly communities of color. States receive over $800 billion annually in federal funds for various programs and use Census data to allocate state budget resources. It is imperative that there is substantial support for a complete and accurate population count.

PHOENIX, AZ – Today, Congressman Rubén Gallego (AZ-07); the President of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL), Senator Carmelo Ríos (PR); Arizona Latino Legislative Caucus Co-Chair, State Representative Diego Espinoza (AZ-19), and Delegate Elizabeth Guzmán (VA-31) gathered in Phoenix to call attention to the latest facts on the ground, related to family separation resulting from the Trump Administration’s so-called “zero tolerance policy” at the southern border. More than 30 Latino state lawmakers from across the country, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, came to Arizona for NHCSL’s bi-annual Executive Committee meeting.

WASHINGTON, DC – El Caucus Nacional de Legisladores Estatales Hispanos (NHCSL, por sus siglas en inglés), que representa las voces de más de 400 legisladores estatales de todas partes del país, Islas Vírgenes Estadounidenses y Puerto Rico, anunció hoy que el presidente de NHCSL y Portavoz de la Mayoría del Senado, Carmelo Ríos (PR), ha sido nombrado a un puesto en la Junta de Directores de la Asociación Nacional de Funcionarios Latinos Electos y Nombrados (NALEO, por sus siglas en inglés).

PHOENIX, AZ / WASHINGTON, DC – The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL), which represents the voices of more than 400 Hispanic state legislators from across the country, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, today called on the Trump Administration to award Temporary Protective Status (TPS) to families that have been separated by the cruel “zero tolerance policy” that started in April and has provoked the separation of thousands of families seeking asylum in the southern border. PHOENIX, AZ / WASHINGTON, DC – El Caucus Nacional de Legisladores Estatales Hispanos (NHCSL, por sus siglas en inglés), que representa las voces de más de 400 legisladores estatales de todas partes del país, Puerto Rico e Islas Vírgenes, hoy le hizo un llamado a la Administración de Trump a que le otorgue Status de Protección Temporal (TPS, por sus siglas en inglés) a las familias que han sido separadas gracias a la cruel política de “cero tolerancia” que comenzó en abril y ha separado a miles de familias que fueron a la frontera sur buscando asilo. WASHINGTON, DC – El Caucus Nacional de Legisladores Estatales Hispanos (NHCSL, por sus siglas en inglés), que representa las voces de más de 400 legisladores estatales de todas partes del país, Islas Vírgenes Estadounidenses y Puerto Rico, hoy le dio la bienvenida a la decisión judicial del Juez federal de distrito John Bates dándole 90 días al Departamento de Seguridad Interna (DHS o “Homeland Security” en inglés) para proveer la justificación legal detrás de la decisión de la Administración de terminar el programa de DACA. Éste es el tercer juez en revocar la cancelación del programa y el primero en ordenar a DHS a aceptar solicitudes nuevas. Además, es el primer juez nombrado por un presidente republicano en tomar dicha decisión, lo que resalta el consenso bipartidista sobre la legalidad de DACA. El pleito legal fue incoado por la Universidad de Princeton, que refleja la importancia de este tema para el sistema universitario estadounidense y para la seguridad económica de la nación.

WASHINGTON, DC – The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL), which represents the voices of more than 400 Hispanic state legislators from across the country, US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, today welcomed US District Judge John Bates’ decision giving the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) 90 days to provide the legal rationale behind the Administration’s decision to cancel the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This is the third federal judge that rebukes the Administration’s attempt to end DACA but the first to order DHS to accept new applications. It is also the first judge appointed by a Republican president to issue such a ruling, which underscores the bipartisan consensus on the legality of the DACA program. The lawsuit was brought by Princeton University; highlighting the importance of this issue to the nation’s higher education system and economic security.

WASHINGTON, DC – El Caucus Nacional de Legisladores Estatales Hispanos (NHCSL, por sus siglas en inglés), que representa las voces de más de 400 legisladores estatales de todas partes de los Estados Unidos, Islas Vírgenes Estadounidenses (USVI) y Puerto Rico, anunció hoy los resultados positivos que se desprendieron luego de las reuniones que llevaron a cabo varios senadores de Puerto Rico, encabezados por el Presidente de NHCSL, el Senador Carmelo Ríos (PR). El NHCSL, que ha tomado la voz cantante en promover un Plan Marshall para Puerto Rico y USVI luego del Huracán María, continuó abogando por las islas durante una serie de reuniones congresionales de alto nivel en las que el Senador Ríos participó la semana pasada. El Legislador también continuó sus gestiones a favor de una moratoria en las ejecuciones hipotecarias de la Administración federal de Vivienda (FHA por sus siglas en inglés), además de impulsar mayores fondos para la reconstrucción de Puerto Rico. Durante las visitas al Congreso, Ríos además abordó el tema de la Junta de Supervisión Fiscal y los ajustes que deberían hacer al plan fiscal de Puerto Rico.

SAN JUAN, PR / WASHINGTON, DC – A delegation of senators from the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) met with the President of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL), Senator Carmelo Ríos (PR) yesterday in Puerto Rico to discuss several issues related to the post-hurricane disaster relief and recovery efforts, as well as other initiatives that could benefit both island jurisdictions. Ríos, who is also the Puerto Rico Senate Majority Leader, welcomed USVI Senators Alicia Chucky Hansen and NHCSL member Janette Millin Young in his office in San Juan.
